Not necessarily. Shockwave makes their 3d lights compatible for both FS9 and FSX. As for this free version, I couldnt say, as I use the Shockwave lights. But I dont see why they wouldnt work.

BTW, very nice shot Mitch. Love the colors and the angle!

Well these .fx files came from an FSX model, the Sirrocco GTX motor boat, I'm not sure about backwards compatability. :-/
