This was supposed to be a "total relaxation" flight before starting my two long haul flights this long weekend (Norway FTW!) (BMI A330-200 EGCC-TAPA and MyTravel Airways A330-200 Stockholm Arlanda-Phuket) but it was no relaxation at all, except during the cruise, but that was ruined by scary memories about the takeoff and hoping the landing would not be as bad. :S

Rainy, stormy and slippery pushback out of Dallas - Ft. Worth International.



After requesting a runway change (for the sheer fun of finally taking off from a "Center"-runway: RWY 35C at DFW.) we have a windy and rainy takeoff. Off center and heavy.



Flying between clouds is fun. Here seen climbing to 27,000 ft during a step climb.



After the step climbs were done (FL270 -> FL350 -> FL410) we were comfortably cruising at 41,000 feet, one and a half hour from our destination. Here it was clear skies and great flying weather.



But all goods things must come to an end. Here seen descending into some scary clouds with severe turbulence. Seconds after I took this SS, we were hit by what seemed to be a fist of extreme wind and got thrown violently to the left.



"Eh Bob, where's the runway?" "Holy macaroni, there it is!" Scary emergency landing at a smaller airport close to our destination, LGA, due to fuel starvation. FSX ATC..



One helluva uncomfortable touchdown. 800 fpm . Many tires would have burst in real.



As we taxied to the parking, we thought the worst was over and we soon would get out of this aircraft. But it wasn't. Seconds before stopping at our assigned parking space, the left engine hits the ground for some unknown reason and makes this unbelievably loud screeching noise. Sparks are flying from it. Luckily we manage to stop and deboard before it ignites. But it was no joke to run through those sparks.



I really enjoyed this flight though.. mostly because the 737 looks AWESOME in the SWA Canyon Blue livery. I just sat there looking at it during the cruise.

About the engine: What happened is I accidentally ruddered fully to the left at the same time as I put full aileron power to the right (or the other way: rudder right, ailerons left) and there suddenly was a blast of wind right at me.

Nice pictures. I also really like the Posky 737 in Canyon Blue - saw some real ones at Phoenix airport a few weeks back.

One question: a 737 at FL410?!

To answer your question, the Next Generation 737s can fly at those altitudes. During my flight back home to Oslo from Barcelona in December, I flew on a Scandinavan Airlines System 737-800 and us passengers were told we were flying at 40,000 feet. I've also seen some photos on A.net that shows -700 models flying at 41,000 feet. So it's fully capable of that. Thanks for the question, always fun answering.

Many thanks for the feedback - it's always good to learn. I've not yet flown in a NG 737, so consequently not been above FL360 (I think) in any kind of 737! Maybe the longer wings and winglets help...

I had a flight like this a few weeks ago on my virtual airline. Although my landing wasn't so bad the ruckus went crazy on the approach.
There were thunderstorms and visibility was about 1 mile so I was on an ILS and I go to the outside view to see if I can see anything (while on autopilot) and my airplane took a dove towards the ground while spinning the other way from the winds.

I had to immediatly fly it without the autopilot to the landing.

Cool shots! I usually remove the opensky_sparks.fx line from my effects header though, it's really annoying and stays there even after an aircraft change. Never mind the realism, it's annoying...lol.
