It is somewhat of a boring shot but I wanted to focus on the plane. The gear at least gave it something.

Au contraire! I'm loving it! There's a lot to look at ... gear, tail, clouds, horizon, colors, trying to make out what's written on the fuselage ... and that is immediately the 'minus' in this shot: there could've been a little more light on the fuse.

But This shot has excellent dynamics; the rain 'stripes' give the shot a great sense of speed and the retracting gears add to the 'live' feel of the shot. I always try to add dynamics to my shots, so it's never just a shot of an aircraft. There must be something going on in the shot, whether that is retracting gears or something to look at in the background ... that is what makes a shot great to look at.

If your eyes are drawn to multiple points in a shots then you know you have a winner :)

Hope this helps ... good luck!

Love the shape of DC10s - great lighting under the wing.

Another shot similar to what I was imagining. Great work here nonetheless! Good Luck in the comp!
