I think it should be a case of quality, not quantity.
That usually means less, not more.

The number of forums is irrelevant if the goal is to introduce one that would be interesting to all, frequently visited and enhance members experience here at V. Imagine a museum curator turning down an opportunity to add a fascinating exhibit because he felt he had enough already.

My point is that we have a large number of forums that seemed a good idea at the time but which are hardly used at all now. At my last count we had almost 50 sections in 12 different categories. That's an awful lot of forums to trawl through if you wish to post something. I've been a regular here for longer than I care to remember & even I still don't know the correct place to post some topics. It's usually a matter of pot luck.
I don't know how it works but I'm not sure any of these can be removed or condensed without losing all the previous topics which might or might not be important. I remember having a similar discussion on adding a History forum. I was the only one against it & was outvoted. I ended up being one of the most regular contributors. It was very lively for a while until some of the regulars left, including the member that proposed it. It's not used very much at all now.
As always this is my personal opinion. You must do as you think best.
