Tried your suggestion.

First, no refresh..

Paused...

Then I refreshed and waited 10 min for this shot.

still paused...

Then I walked away and came back 78 minutes later and took this shot.

In FS9, I can't get clear scenery accept right under the aircraft no matter what I do. I actually gave up on it long ago.

Have you tried the LOD_RADIUS tweak in the FS9.cfg ?

EDIT:
TERRAIN_DEFAULT_RADIUS=9.500000
TERRAIN_EXTENDED_RADIUS=4.50000
TERRAIN_EXTENDED_LEVELS=1 or 4.
Also TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=400

Try this....

Ahh yes, the scenery cfg. That's a story in itself. But, to make a long story short, this is the scenery cfg. The results are quite dramatic....keeps close and distant scenery in razor sharp focus..

. Backup your current working FS9.CFG first!!!(found at C:\Documents and Settings\Your User Name\Application Data\Microsoft\FS9)

TERRAIN_ERROR_FACTOR=100.000000
TERRAIN_MIN_DEM_AREA=10.000000
TERRAIN_MAX_DEM_AREA=100.000000
TERRAIN_MAX_VERTEX_LEVEL=21
TERRAIN_TEXTURE_SIZE_EXP=8
TERRAIN_AUTOGEN_DENSITY=5
TERRAIN_USE_GRADIENT_MAP=1
TERRAIN_EXTENDED_TEXTURES=1
TERRAIN_DEFAULT_RADIUS=8.500000
TERRAIN_EXTENDED_RADIUS=8.500000
TERRAIN_EXTENDED_LEVELS=1242456

Also make sure that the visibility is set around 30-40 km with 99999ft celling ;)

It indeed looks like you need to fiddle around with your fs9.cfg ...

I edited these two lines in the fs9.cfg and now get these results.

TERRAIN_DEFAULT_RADIUS=8.500000
TERRAIN_EXTENDED_RADIUS=8.500000

Is there a way to get this without editing the cfg? I find it hard to believe that anyone would build a game where these results are possible but can only get there by editing the cfg.

Again, thanks.

I am always amazed that our "Flight Simulator" Chums expect to be able to see clearly, hundreds of miles into the distance... :o...!

During my real flights up into the Blue in our Club's Cessna 152's, I notice that I can rarely see more than a couple of miles, reasonably clearly, into the distance!

Beyond that, everything is blurred in Mist, Fog, low Cloud, Smoke, Dust, Sun-glare, and general atmospheric pollution!

For realistic Sim Flying, I always set my visibility between 5 to 10 Miles (or even less), and adjust my Weather Settings to suit!

Did it ever occur to you Paul, that you might need a pair of spectacles? ;D ;) 8-)
