The New Graphics Card - Part 2

This is a continuation of the screen shots I wanted to share that I took after installing my new graphics card.  While I know there are much better systems than mine out there, it is important to remember that before my new card I could barely even get FSX to work.  Now, FSX is a beautiful and joyful flying experience for me, so I am rather happy.

In part 2 here, I decided to share some screen shots of the Bombardier CRJ700.  Until recently, I never had tried out this regional jet, but now that I have I must say that it is very pleasant to fly.

This first shot was taken while approaching Salt Lake City.  There have been a couple of tweaks I made to the settings since this flight, but by this point my regular flight settings are almost where I want them.

This is another shot of the CRJ700 while approaching Salt Lake City.  Why I didn't get a shot while over the lake is beyond me.  Perhaps I was too busy vectoring in for a landing by that point, heh.

Don't let the arid setting of the landscape fool you; this shot is not in the same location as the above two.  This screen shot was taken while on approach to the Tri-Cities, Washington, where my parents live.  Can you see them waving on their front porch?

Here is a front on picture of the CRJ700 wihle I am vectoring for approach at Spokane, Washington.  While the landscape and sky are rather plain, I think the angle of the aircraft is rather dramatic and eye-catching.

Here we are just catching the tail of the CRJ700 while approaching Spokane, so that must mean we are at the end of my screen shots.

And, so that's it for now.  Again, there was nothing thematic in mind when I took the shots here and in part 1.  Mostly, I just wanted to show you all how FSX was working with my new graphics card and more robust RAM.  In the future, I hope to take some flights with picturesque shots in mind.

So, thanks for checking these shots out.  Your comments are welcome, and if you haven't had the chance already, be sure to check out the shots in part 1.

Thanks, guys!  I am glad you like the shots!  Sadly, I had to tweak down the settings a bit today.  I don't know where they are going to finally end up.

You see, I had the thought of making a few videos in FSX.  So, I fired up Fraps and FSX, put the CRJ700 at Stevens Int'l, Alaska, and got ready to fly.  However, a storm was rolling in and there were a LOT of clouds of varying types and at different elevations (a LOT more than in the screen shots here).  With all the cloud settings at full, frame rate died down to around 4.5fps.

:o :'(

After reducing one setting after another, I was able to squeeze out 9.5fps without sacrificing much in the way of quality.  But, still . . .

Sigh.  I guess there comes a point after you install new hardware that you hit the wall with that new hardware and are left with that persistent itch to go buy something more powerful all over again!  Heh.  Lost cause, there.  I know there will always be something stronger and faster than what I have . . . and more pricey than my pocketbook will allow.

Looks like the only videos I will make will be in the dry, sunny desert!

;D

Still pretty dang happy,
Darrin
