FSX- Overclocking! (sadly its the demo)

Well I got my 512mb 8600GTS in the post yesterday from repairs (shortcircuited it) and I have overclocked it... just to see how much better it can perform

before:
memory clock: 1008Mhz
core clock: 675Mhz

after:
memory clock: 1150Mhz
core clock: 1100Mhz

so yeh, theres a bit of a difference, mostly in the core speed.

anywho, for a bit of the time, it has worked. The first of each image pair is the underclocked version- i guess they are just random shots all in all, but hey, learn something new every day

I hope you enjoy... and any pointers on getting it better would be appreciated. the settings are maxed out on the shots... isnt there a patch for the full version of the game to make it run faster? are these FPSs any good?

1.8Ghz dual core, 2gb RAM

thanks for looking

If you know what you are doing you can squeeze even more out of the CPU. My AMD 4200+ X2 (default 2200MHz) runs at 2553 MHz easily.

I don't know about GPU overclocking.
But a gain in performance for sure.

Cheers,
Fabian

Are you running FRAPS to see your FPS?

yes... though isnt it soposed to make the games lag a little bit itself?

FRAPS when engaged will hit your FPS but if you are just running the counter, then it is OK.

yeh, i just had it minimized away and was just using the FPS counter

but, is this sort of FPS any good? that patch can get another 20-50% out of your hardware.. so all in all i am technically able to get over 20FPS on ground (where you are slower, so slower FPS doesnt hurt asmuch) and in the 30s or so for over sea

The demo is not NEARLY as hard hit as the real thing but that is only if you don't have the HD and RAM space.

Yes, the demo is "preloaded" with the scenery so it is not really "searching" or "rendering" textures as they are created while you fly. So the demo, as the Acceleration mission" will always perform a bit better than free flight.

Also MS put allot of time into the St. Martin scenery knowing that it was popular place to fly.  I would test someplace else  ;)
