I was bored and tried to make an autorotor landing just next to KSEA and see there: It does work!!

A normal flight.

Autorotor practise: Fuel Cutoff!

Gaining air speed.

Note the rotor indicator below the speed indicator: No thrust, but rotor RPM!

Catching the helo for a safe landing!

I also tried that with the default Bell 206b, which works fine too.

I use to know someone who actually autorotated his helo. Had a bird fly smack into his tail rotor. Got down safely.

Nice flareout on your landing 8-)

Really? Wow, that must have been a surprise for him...

It's funny, I never sit in a helicopter, but in FS9, I can fly them... ;D

I think in reality, I'd be much more shocked (!) if we had to make an autorotor landing than a normal engine failure on a cessna or sth (which is in fact just like gliding, no problem)...

As I started flying helo on FS9, I couldn't find a way how to do it. Now I worked it out! Couldn't belive it worked... ^^

Actually, what you did may be close to a textbook maneuver for autorotating. As I understand it, you shut off the fuel (which you did), put the helo in a dive at 3,000 fpm (while looking for a good place to land!), and flare out (which you did).
