One set more of default vanilla no-frills FSX. The sound, visuals and feeling of flight are wonderful.... I'm converted!!!!

No 'Saviour' in Rio though... and Chicago doesn't seem to exist any more.... but hey, no problem  when the places  that do exist look like this!!

Comp: GeForce 7800, Core2Duo 6600, 2gb memory.... quite good but no where near evelope pushing, and the sim runs as well as FS9 in most situations - with low ai, but with light bloom, high density autogen and what may or may not be highest water settings (I read that the sim ignores you if you "push it too far"... anyway, what can I

Yes, wait until Tuesday. Then the DX10 patch comes out! But it will work only with Vista, not a problem with me but it might be a problem for some poeple.

for those who are smart enough not to submit themselves to MS and their security holes. im hapy with XP SP2 until Vista gets SP1 atleast then i mite consider buying vista.

Yes, FSX is more sensitive to the sliders than FS9 so to get the goodies you have to be able to jack up the sliders

The man is there.. he just needs a bump on that scenery complexity to make him show

I'll have another look for the saviour, for some reason I thought he stood on Sugar Loaf but maybe now I think of it he's somewhere inland behind the city....

I see from the comments that default FSX Rio and the default Maule's old news...  ;D
...and if you don't have DX10 light bloom then it's just not good enough - good tip Jonny, it isn't as impressive as I was hoping...
Strange that my Oblivion shows some bloom in DX9c...  :-?

The main thing is that I find it amazing though, I suppose...

I'm going to have to wait till next Xmas before my wife will even consider letting me buy a DX10 card, and I have no plans for getting Vista for 3 years.... but Active Sky/Active Sky Graphics/Flight Environment X and the new terrain thing from the Voz and FEX people are all coming out before Xmas...and Real Environment X....muahahahaaa... they shall be mine.... I won't be posting in freeware for long  ;)

Your shots look great krigl..

that shot I posted was WinXP and DX9 with my sun-fix installed... light bloom works in DX9, it just kills performance

Thanks a lot for your detailed reply again Nick, I feel safer about adding stuff and fiddling now... and I'll mention about the texture hacks in admin - let my elders and betters decide if they should be removed. I'll so some serious experimenting with the water to see it the

Just about everything you need to know is located in the threads which were posted in the forums. I need to consolidate an entire thread to what works in FSX starting with the system build and go all the way through Windows setup, driver setup and FSX setup. Recently I have over-stretched myself time wise, as usual. I took some time off the last several weeks to say goodbye to a friend and in the process escaped to a marathon of FSX FX writing which was a nice break but as of today I am back to the real world.

The key threads are the Windows setup, the Nvidia driver setup thread with Nhancer, and, FSX slider config/tweak setup around page 4-5 of that same thread (also see an update to Nhancer and drivers here: http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/yabb2 ... 2347/45#50 )

FSX has come a long way since RTM. It requires very little as compared to RTM for tweaking and everything is fairly strait forward now.

As for water on max, that will force other areas to pull back so I would play with that at 2x low unless you are in a bush or low impact autogen area. As I said, even DX10 cards on XP do better overall @ 2x low. It all comes down to where you are flying and how high the sliders are set.

as for removing the hacks.. some people wear by them. The only reason I said that is because the hacks are not doing what people think they do and if they are in place during an upgrade, the sim is worse. To me they make no sense past the introduction of SP1 and even then, I found when I did them all several times to test, it made the sim look and run worse. Sometimes people boot and run one area but just do not see the damage they have done overall. I guess for people who run very poor hardware the hacks have use.
