My first shots on a new system

Postby justpassingthrough » Mon Aug 27, 2007 12:33 am

My tech finished building my new tower this afternoon and I have been flying for hours on end now with a new DDR3 Quad system.

Not a single stutter, not one.

I am simply amazed at the differences in the flight dynamics, aircraft response and visual quality. My screens in the past were always fairly good but a shot never shows how well the simulator is really working. These don't do it justice.

Compression did a number on them but I did not feel like spending time trying to get them perfect, I just snagged them in flight and enlarged the frame counter. I want to get back to flying.

I've been wondering where you've been lately. Haven't seen you in the Hardware section.

Well, I'm happy for you and your new system. If anyone deserves it, it's you 8-)

Oh, these are nice pics (and the frame rates, especially over Seattle!!). Boy, I'm green with envy!!

I don't think I've ever seen so much autgen and detail in a set of shots at such high frames as this.

I'm hoping I can get somewhere close with my Quad system.

And I bet you haven't even done much (if any) tweaking yet.

Isn't that AMAZING?

I could not have done that myself.

Without a hardware expert for a friend I would never have known how to get the system to run like that. This is my first Intel system since an old Intel Gateway I got back in the late 90's and I have a lot to learn after running AMD for the last 3 years.

I am running 3.6gig at an amazing FSB

The GTX video card is completely maxed out too and it never goes over 69c!

Time for another flight!

Now I do not have to avoid any area because of urban size. I may be up ALL NIGHT!

All we did were the basic configuration file tweaks and correct slider settings but no restricted autogen. We used the scale for TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT and SWAP_WAIT_TIMEOUT, set the SmallPartRejectRadius=2 and it all fell right into place.

I was able to use a few parts from my old tower but not enough to really make a huge difference except for the 500 dollar power supply which I bought 7 months ago in anticipation and planning of building this rig. It was around $2900 because I had to replace the hard drives and get a new tower so everything would have enough air flow.

I almost ended up on the couch over it but well worth the fight and the couch if it came to that

In all the excitement I plain forgot that we installed Ultimate Terrain and XClass for FSX which means these images are posted in the wrong area. I was not even thinking about it when I made this thread. I was just so wound up and happy I just plain forgot!

::) Too good to be default.... ::)

by the landclass layout I agree but Ultimate Terrain X cranks the screws to the frames so if I was running default they would be even better
