simonmd's heavy fly-by

Postby simonmd » Fri Aug 17, 2007 7:48 pm

It's open day at Berksdale Air Force Base and the crowd get's a WWII treat. Among the resident B52's, a special guest can be seen also. A rare visit by a Russian TU-124 early warning aircraft.

B29 available here at SimV (project Superfortress I think)

I like the sky because it draws more attention to the aircraft  :)
If it was a pretty dusk picture there wouldn't be much atention to the aircraft.

Yeah I think it captures the look of an airshow and follows the rules properly! [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

Oh the color of the sky is fine, I was referring to the square shapes I see (not sure whether its the clouds or not). Other than that, again, a Very nice shot! :)

With that B-29 drawing so much attention the foreground/middleground, and that Tupolev 126 drawing so much attention to the background, I am finding my breath seems to be disappearing from my lungs. :o :o :o :o

Sadly, I've found the shot seems ever-so-slightly overcompressed (barely noticable, but I can see it on the Tupolev.) :'(

But it took me a huge amount of time to notice that. VERY well done. [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

Thanks for all the comments. The sky is a result of me useing 'tower view' to get the required angle and zoom. I've found that if you want background objects to look closer then the tower view gives you a nice shot. However, this zooms in the sky as well making it quite bland.

Best shot I have ever seen. I love how you captured multiple B-52s in the background while focusing the image on the shiny bare-metal WWII classic in front. The Tupolev adds the extra little spice that adds variety and makes it believable as an airbase-based military airshow. The compression didn't really harm it, imo it made it better by directing more focus on the B-26, which isn't really effected by it, and putting the background where it should be: in the background. It gives the whole thing an almost photoreal quality.

The flat overcast weather really reminds me of one drizzly morning manning an airshow booth a few years ago.
Good luck, it should go far.

B52 AI and Berksdale AFB by MAIW

I think you mean "Barksdale" AFB in Lousianna?  We haven't done an AI B-52 or a package for Barksdale.
