So I was parked at Heathrow with a 767 minding my own business, sped up the game to "fastest" and then back to normal, played around in slew mode, went back to normal, and then when I looked back i saw this:

Image

What the eff was my first thought, so i slewed to that runway see what was going on...
Shots speak for themselves... 747 INVASION

Image

Image

The first one landed, all others started to go around like crazy..-

Image

Yeah and i have no idea why they look like 16bit color depth...
And I didnt edit out those red letters either, i'm sorry... i was busy getting as many shots as possible...

Kinda reminds me of this one by Ijineda... though i didnt record anything, it just happened...

This happens all the time with AI and the slider pushed up in FS9 at major airports depending on the time of day. They will suddenly appear out of nowhere about 20 miles out inbound to the hub.

Go to just about any major hub with AI set to 90%, take off and circle the airport and wait about 10 minutes or less. You will see them coming on. Night time makes them easier to spot in the distance which is probably why many dont see this happen very often. That, and the fact that you usually take off and leave the area. If you do the sim cancels the inbounds becausae you are not there to see the action.

time of day is also important. You wont see that happen at 2am.. more around the typical busy times, another reason why many may have never seen that happen.

The sim brings on the first set of AI landings together in a pile, why I dont know but use the software AI Smooth to fix the pile-up and go arounds.

It will have them change course well before they get close to the airport and bring them in correctly.

Hmm My AI slider is set to 1% which enables all of my custom AI plus very few of the default traffic... these are Brittish Airways and they should be on a realistic schedule... hm... also we all know that after 4x acceleration the AI disappears.. i think that caused some problems

What really bugged my mind was that they were all 744s, when in the ground the AI has a variety of Boeings and Buses... Really weird.

This happens because the AI all spawn in the AI viewing area all at once when you boot up at a new time.  IOW once you speed things way up and then slowed back to normal speed your AI were forced to re-generate inside the AI viewable area.  As a result many AI aircraft all spawn at the same place and time forcing them to "pile up" on one another.  No real way around this other than using the aformentioned "AI Smooth" program.  Of course the busy times are the worst.

When we write our military ai flightplans, we can use this "problem" to generate formation flights for fighter aircraft.  Works pretty well if the aircraft are planned as VFR flights.  Eventually they do break up or one of them ends up going around on the final approach.

Mine does it all the time. With Ultimate Traffic I have it bumped to max so when say I'm a Seattle Intl, me and 15+ planes will be waiting to take off and 18+ will either be landing or doing go arounds. I sat in traffic there for close to an hour once waiting for take off.  ;D

Then you probably have duplicate traffic files :-/

You could solve that by deleting them (make a backup first) and then recompile your Ultimate Traffic file. That should solve a lot of your problems.

And try AI Smooth ... that too will solve a lot of issues especially at busy airports.
