After the allied defeat at D-Day and the uneasy peace treaty with Stalin signed, Hitler was able to rebuild his Luftwaffe, ready for another assault on the British Isles.  Throughout '44 and '45, and thanks to the lack of relevant allied bombing after 1943, the German war machine has been able to develope war machines that will consign the FW 190 and Bf 109 to the history books.  The Luftwaffe has fully endorsed 'the jet age'.

It's the 7th of may 1947  and, at Calais airport, the silence of the morning air is broken by the sound of an Arado Ar E.555/1 rolling along the runway.

This bomber has a maximum speed of 534 mph and a range of 2983 miles. Nowhere on the U.K. is safe.

It is accompanied by it's Arado stablemate...the Projekt 1. This is a 497 mph fighter.

Although, it should be noted the German's have not abandoned props. This is the 510 mph Blohm & Voss  p.170

With good old blighty below, things are looking ominous for the allies.

But essentially the allies have little to compete. Here we have the 597 mph Focke Wulf TA 183 Huckebein. Scanning the skies for luckless Hawker Tempests and P-51's.

In another time, one would assume the Russians might use this for their 50's fighter designs, but not today.

and things get even worse for the allies in part 2.  ;)
