It's the 7th of may 1947 and, at Calais airport, the silence of the morning air is broken by the sound of an Arado Ar E.555/1 rolling along the runway.

This bomber has a maximum speed of 534 mph and a range of 2983 miles. Nowhere on the U.K. is safe.

It is accompanied by it's Arado stablemate...the Projekt 1. This is a 497 mph fighter.

Although, it should be noted the German's have not abandoned props. This is the 510 mph Blohm & Voss p.170

With good old blighty below, things are looking ominous for the allies.

But essentially the allies have little to compete. Here we have the 597 mph Focke Wulf TA 183 Huckebein. Scanning the skies for luckless Hawker Tempests and P-51's.

In another time, one would assume the Russians might use this for their 50's fighter designs, but not today.
