Crossing the Pond in a Cessna - Leg 2

Well here it is. The second leg just as promised. The flight went great despite the incredibly strong crosswind at altitude. The routing took me about 440 nm going from Custer (KTTF) to Schenectady County Airport (KSCH) just outside of Albany, NY. I cruised most of the flight at 9,000 ft to stay out of the clouds as much as possible and take advantage of the best winds. Most of the flight I had winds at about 100 degrees to the left of my course at around 35 kts. Needless to say it was a long flight with a ground speed of about 100 kts. a majority of the trip. The flight came to a total of 4.4 hours. I'm glad this is simulated and I have other things to do to pass the time.  :o

I'm not quite sure where the next flight takes me but it will likely be somewhere along the Canadian coastline. I'm planning on spending some of this afternoon on figuring out the rest of my routing and I'll post it as an update to this post.

Here are the shots. I cropped them this time because I don't like the way they look in widescreen format. I hope that doesn't break the rules and require me to post in the edited shots forum, does it?

All loaded up and ready to go at Custer.

Climbing through the clouds up to 9,000 ft.

Finally coming up on clear skies near Albany.

Landing runway 4.

Getting some much needed fuel before tonight's flight. I'd rather get it now than in the cold of the night.

As always, comments welcome.

Well, hope your next flight does alright :)

Last shot is kinda strange, is that a prop dust effect? ::)

Indeed nice shots. I'm not very knowledgeable on the cessna, but is there an auto pilot that just perhaps keeps your speed and altitude?  Or are you controlling it the whole time?

And the *dust* I assume is the snow or rain if there was any, the prop kicks up it up pretty harshly.  :)

The autopilot has a Nav hold and Altitude hold. I typically fly all the way up to cruise altitude and then once I begin getting vectors I take over once again. During the cruise phase on such a long flight I surf the web and watch TV.

As for the "dust" that's actually snow. For some reason MS thinks that snow magically comes from the tires at all times in the winter. Oh well.

I trust you're still sitting at the computer, right? ;D

LOL... I've done 4 1/2 hrs in RL in a 172; I can relate. At that altitude and speed there's not a whole lot of excitement, even flying by hand,  apart from working out your position... but even that can only be done so many times...  ;D

Next leg starts at about 1800Z... if anyone with FSX cares to join just get in touch with me. I'm not sure if FS9 and FSX multiplayer can interact with each other. Otherwise I'd invite anyone.  ;D

Just found out I can connect to the SimV MP FSHOST with FSX. I'll be online for todays flight and maybe on Teamspeak. I don't plan on running in windowed mode to see chat windows so I might not reply right away.
