I'm Surprised!

Considering how many people said that their powerful rigs were choking when they ran FSX on low settings, I figured that my ancient computer might die if I even ran FSX on low settings. I guess I was wrong.

My Rig:

Pentium 4 2.4GHz
512MB Ram
Nvidia GeForce 4 MX440 128MB [DX9 installed, but the card won't support the features]

FSX Settings:

Terrain Mesh slider - All the way to the right.
Mesh Resolution slider - Half way
Global Texture Resolution slider - All the way to the right.
Everything else - All the way to the LEFT.

I guess my rig still has a purpose in life. I'm surprised my rig hasn't exploded into a supernova already. 8-)

Taking off from Interlaken.

I guess that because your card cannot handle all the DX9 features, it has much less stuff to compute, so it gives better performance :)

The big question is: What were the frames like?

What frames ?
Frames per second ? They are written in yellow on top left of the screen by FRAPS ;)

Those good results are a little bit the same as if you set your card on "Best Performance". You sacrify some visual features of your video cards to get better frame rates. The difference with your MX400 is that you don't have the choice to enable again  ;D

I. Duabe is right. Look at the top-left corner of each shot and you'll get your answer.

II. Daube is right again. I have no choice but to deal with NOT having the reflections, light bloom, and self shadowing. However, I am able to get bump maps. ;)

III. I decided to move up a few sliders. Here they are.

  • Both Terrain mesh and resolution set all the way to the right.
  • Texture Detail Distance set to medium.
  • Texture Detail set to first notch from the left.

Frames were still steady like in the shots above with these new settings, although the loading time grows a little bigger every time. The frames drop like a stone if I were to even think of tinkering with the water settings [which is set all the way to the left]. I have more shots ready with the Extra 300 at various angles with the new display settings. I'll post them soon enough.
