Looking great!

And I think the moving road traffic does add a new dimension that the guys who are sticking with FS04 don't fully appreciate just yet.

I'd love to have the chance to appreciate it, but like most of those 'sticking with' FS9 I both can't afford to upgrade, and can't see the point when my FS9 is finally running smoothly and looks lovely (to me). :)

Mirrored water, better mesh and textures, moving traffic, better default VCs, missions, enhanced gliding; FSX sounds wonderful, but I don't want to need FSX just now.

Cheers

I guess it would depend on what your objective for flight sim is. If you have a wild uncontrollable desire to look at moving cars, boats, and animals, then I guess FSX would be for you. If you just want to navigate between waypoints and land at your destination then FS9 would fit the bill..... ;D
At least for me FS9 works perfectly 8)

I can't argue with that at all, Fly.

But here's a little something that I found surprising and somewhat pleasing. I posted a few shots of the Howard a few days ago being lit up by lightning while parked, engines off. The last shot was on the apron at default FSX Southampton. While I was lining the shot up I noticed a stream of traffic driving past the airport entrance with its lights on. You can just see it in the shot but of course the shot is reduced in size, so in the sim it was much more apparent.

You come across traffic like that quite often (I'm working at a mediumish setting) when you are taxying out (eg driving past the end of the runway threshold), and when you are taking off and landing. Also on the biggish roads in the area when you are approaching your destination airfield. Add that to the fact that a lot of airfields in FSX now have boundary fences, and it adds quite a bit to the overall visual experience. Especially as, for me anyway, the take off and landing are absolute key parts of the flying experience. The bit in the middle flying at X thousand feet is the 'boring' bit.

Thanks Andrew. The one thing that is noticeable is that I've had to turn water down to a mediumish setting as my card can't really cut it. It looks a bit like FS04 standard but when I get really low I can see that the rippling surface is made up of slightly differing colour moving squares.

It's OK from higher up though, but I'm not worried as I rarely fly amphibians - don't think they are at all convincing even in FSX.

Wow...Fantastic shots Roger...I was wondering...has anyone else noticed how similar the ground textures looks to those supplied by GE2006 for FS9 8)

Seeing as they are both designed with the intent of looking like the ground its not really suprising is it :P ;D

Cool shots, looks like a fun place to fly :)

I like the FSX cloud detail and the softness of the FSX skies. I like to see the new mesh when it's working properly as here. And I think the moving road traffic does add a new dimension that the guys who are sticking with FS04 don't fully appreciate just yet.

I think that the road textures have an awful long way to go. If Bill Lyons can give them more sharply defined edges in Silverwings I think that probably the texture guys could have done a much better job than they have in FSX

Oh yeah, and another thing I like about FSX which is very noticeable against FS04 - you don't get a pattern from repeat terrain texture tiling and that's one of the single most important things that adds to realism while flying.

you hit it right on the money with that description, i also think that the reflections look better. the glass reflections look awesome also. great shots, although i wish i could see the cars more.

Could you please post a shot of ellington field? i don't mean to annoy anyone(i have seen how many requests have been posted) but i need to see if it is any closer to the real thing in fsx
