In my FS2004 Kai Tak scenery I had a cruise liner that started in Hong Kong bay, travelled right round the Island and returned to where it started from. Then it stayed there for a while and started off again. If you wanted to you could take off from Kai Tak and go look for it, it was quite good fun.
It used a now obsolete method of making moving objects call DOD (Dynamic Object Design) which in my opinion has never been matched since. Anyway, objects don't have to move over tiny distances before disappearing, that's the point.
We don't know how the carriers will move in FSX but if you look, the small boats in the harbour don't disappear, just as AI air traffic doesn't and just as my cruise liner doesn't either. I have high hopes that we will have the potential to make some really interesting water scenery - especially as I mentioned in my FSXforum thread, if you combine moving ships with adapted flour bombing
