It's difficult to isolate one as being the greatest, but it's up to you to decide which one does deserve that prestigious accolade. They're hardly in the same class at all, but I asked myself which one I'd rather fly, given a choice between one chance at a DC3 or a Spitfire... and I think everybody knows which I chose. I know it sounds crazy, but...

It appears right now that the Spit is in the lead with 10 votes...compared to the DC-3 with 6

It should be no contest!  DC-3 is a much better airplane!

I see the Spit is leading but we got to remember that was not the aircraft which won the Battle of Britain but the beautiful Hawker Hurricane.

WHEN WILL YOU PEOPLE REALIZE THAT THE DC-3 PLAYED A MAJOR PART IN WINNING THE WAR!?

Thats why it definately should win in my mind.  First, it revolutionized the air travel industry, second, it played a major role in winning wwII for the allies, third, it saved lives in the berlin airlift, forth, it continued to be a great passenger plane throughout and after the war, fifth, even after 70 YEARS of being in service it still flies today carrying people and cargo, and doing those jobs more reliably and economically than modern counterparts.

If you havent realized it yet, the spit and hurri may have shot down some germans, but in the end THE DC-3 HAS DONE MORE AND CONTINUES TO DO MORE IN BETTER WAYS THAN ANY OTHER PLANE!

Um, I would prefer to be in the cockpit of the DC-3 anyday!

I've voted for the Spitfire in this thread, and the C-130 in the other. After reading that list ^, you'd be foolish not to see why!
