It was a good night at Mirny.  Besides some reports of an esacped prisenor steeling a I-16 Ishak at Tomsk.  Nothing for us to worry about.  Then, over the radio, I here a desprate Mayday.  "MAYDAY!! MAYDAY!! This is Tupolev 126 Kursk,  Going down over northen Siberia! Do you read me?" I could here wind and static over the tranmition.  I needed to act fast. Yes, comrade, I read.  What is your position? I asked  "65 decgrese north by 115 decgrese west"  Okay.  What is your status?  "We had an explosive decompression." How did  you stay in?  "I was in the radio campartment.  I am loosing altitude fast.  Please hurry."  With that,  we all piled into the Mi-6 chopper.

There was very little moon light as we raced to the crash site.  Time was of the esence in the sub-zero tempature.

At last!  We found the plane on a frozen river. It was huge!  A mavel of Socialest enginering.  We saw him huddled up next to a part of the plane that was on fire.  We turned on the lights and Landed.  We got out and ran to him.  He was alive. but out cold with a weak pluse.  We hurried him back on the chopper and headed back to base.
