Dawn Patrol with the 'subhunter'
The good old RAF Nimrod. Remarkable aircraft, based on the original airframe of the DeHaviland Comet dating back to the early '50's! Here out heros are on an early morning patrol over the north sea......
Richards, 'Well, another boring patrol, wonder if anything will happen today?' 'Na, never does!' Harris replied.

'Ah, dawn at last, looks like it'll be a nice day.' said Harris, 'shhh, i'm trying to sleep!' Richards yawned.

'Hang on, we've got something on the screen. Harris, turn left to heading 243.' 'Probably another fishing boat' Harris responded. 'Can't see anything yet, wait, there, LOOK one o'clock on the surface!'

'That's a sub alright Richards, we've not been informed of any Royal Navy patrols in this area.' Harris looked worried, 'er, give me the radio I supose i'd better raise them. "Unidentified vessel, this is RAF Nimrod zero two. You are in UK waters, surface or be fired upon". Harris, give them a low pass and i'll open the torpedo doors to show 'em we mean business.' 'Good idea, coming in low now.'

'Hang on, i'm recieving something, "RAF aircraft, this is russian vessel Minsk. Please hold your fire, we are surfacing now." There she is, big bugger too! "Russian vessel, you are one mile from international waters, turn to heading zero six zero and remain on the surface until you have cleared UK terratory." Richards looked nervously at Harris, 'do you think they'll do it?' 'I hope so,' Harris responded, 'it's too early to start a war!' After a couple of minuites, the radio crackled into life, "Confirm zero, six, zero, sorry for the error RAF zero two."

'Phew, that was a tense one, OK, she's in international waters, let's go home for breakfast!'

'That's the aircraft secure, you not coming for breakfast Richards?' 'Not yet, i'd better send this report off first. I think the C.O. may be interested in how close we came to starting a war this morning!'
