NEW Vistaliners TriStar, review.

Postby simonmd » Tue Jan 10, 2006 12:04 pm

Available now in 'Beta' version is the new Vistaliners L1011 TriStar. Just the model at present, default panel and sound is used but I think it'll be worth the wait. I've done seven pictures to show as much as possible but have compressed them so they are only 417kb's in total, just under the 500kb limit.

IMHO, one of the greatest FS aircraft designers is Eric Cantu (formerly of SGA fame) & team at Vistaliners. So the news of a brand new release is good indeed!

Here she is then, even at Beta stage the level of detail is pleasing. ALL the six passenger doors open as well as the forward cargo hold. The cockpit is nicely rendered with transparent windows showing the three flight crew inside. A nice noval feature is the opening crew escape hatch on the cockpit's roof, activated by the tailhook command. Not seen that before!
Image

The TriStar's most distinctive view is the rear 3/4. You'll find the odd texture 'blip' but remember this is the Beta version.
Image

Amazingly for a Beta, it comes with seven liveries, six of them variations on the Eastern theme in painted and bare metal and one unusual 'demonstrator' aircraft in part early '70's BEA livery for us brits!
Image

The flight dynamics apear to be spot on. She held the ILS into KSEA nicely. The flaps deploy at a more realistic slow rate adding to the realism while not suddenly giving you excess lift when on approach.
Image

Touchdown. The gear struts aren't fully modeled yet but it does feature tilting boggies and steering nose gear.
Image

You can see more clearly here the 'basic' gear struts but the wing surfaces are very nicely modeled including leading edge slats.
Image

My favorite shot, the night textures are lovely! Nice bright spotlamp on the tail and illuminated cabin windows.

I hope you've enjoyed this review, the package is available now at http://www.eastern-va.com/vistaliners/tribetaterms.htm

Great shots! ;D
My Results:

F-15 Eagle

You are an F-15. Your record in combat is spotless; you've never been defeated. You possess good looks, but are not flashy about it. You prefer to let your reputation do the talking

I knew I should have shown it as soon as I posted this! Here it is, on display at the aircraft museum at Duxford, England.

LOL...Reminds me of the time i played a joke on the ground crew when i was a refueler  a tri-star had landed at kdsm to take on more fuel (enroute from Honalulu to Heathrow).
Captain said he was just topping up (he took about 15,000 gallons)

anyway back to my joke on the ground crew before I started pumping I had to make sure the chocks were in place,I was feelin kind of mischevious so I made the chocks nice and snug up against the tires then proceeded to pump roughly 100,000 lbs of fuel on board  ;D

Lovely aircraft. Tried it out - very nice to fly; too bad it doesn't have a VC. :)

Doesn't have a panel at all! (makes do with the default 777 one) Is only the beta, early days for a VC.

That's a great looking plane Simon. I almost bought it in a 1011 over the Rockies at about 20,000 ft. or so years ago. On my way home to Montreal everyone heard a loud bang...I looked out my window and saw another jet had crossed in front of us...i could see the peoples faces in the other jet...maybe 100 feet away...too close for comfort...still love to fly any chance I get though.. :)
