Me, and my shaadooow...

I'm not much on flying jets, but I like this one. Maybe it's because I have fond memories of watching the Blue Angels at air shows with my dad.

So I was on my first 'test flight' when I decided to shadow a passing 737.

My only thing about trying to fly formation with AI traffic is that they have a tendency to wander back and forth. This is a little too close for me:

Hey you, in 20E! Yeah you, grandma! Put your teeth back in, I'm not gonna shoot ya down!
Image

"For our passengers on the right side of the aircraft, if you look out your windows you'll have a splendid view of one our Blue Angels. Don't worry, I'm sure he's a 'friendly.'"

After all of this (yawn) excitement, I landed at the destination airport and found a quiet place to watch the 737 land.

I like how the guy in back takes his helmet off when you open the canopy. That's pretty cool!

The way to tell the difference... ???...

The Goshawk has twin wheels on the front under carriage and also has air brakes on the side rather than underneath (like a hawk) this is to make room for the arrester hook.

Hope this will help in the future :)

Try doing it with a plane thats already at cruise. you can then predict its speed, well, sometimes anyway. I was just escorting a Noble 777 from Dulles to Seatle at M0.92??? Once you get within 1nm switch from Mach hold to IAS hold for better control, I think I was at 364kts @ FL300, then just sit there and edge closer and closer, if you think your going to fast tap the airbrakes, but dont let them fully extend, I managed to stay on its wingtip until mid-Montana when I broke away to let the Montana ANG have a go at escorting it. I was gettin pretty low on gas at that point.
