Dear Father,
I have had a wonderful time up at Cranwell. I have made a great new friend called Rory Stubbs, he has a wonderful sense of humour, and is quite skilled in a Tiger Moth. As you know, we have finished flight training, and have been drafted down to RAF Dunkeswell, so I'm near home. you might see me flying over!!.
We've also been assigned those new "Hurricanes", wonderful little planes those.

Recently, I had my turn to patrol the Channel, and these January snows don't make for good flying. (I hope it was a good Christmas, by the way.)

I was doing my duty, everything was fine, but suddenly, foyr shapes appeared out of the gloom. After all those years you and I had learning about aircraft, I knew these were Heinkel He-111's. All four of them.

I climbed up into the clouds. I was to take these guys by surprise. I prepared myself, and thought of you and the family at this moment.
I broke through the clouds, finger on trigger, and began to tear the third aircraft apart.

I saw my bullets make contact along the port side of the fuselage, and I tore a hole in the port wing. Fuel began to leak, and the aircraft struggled to regain control. I fired another burst of rounds and hit his elevons.

I dived and came from underneath. In my short time before I stalled, I sprayed the entire group with rounds from my guns. I got lucky on the second aircraft, completely stalling his engines and critically damaging him.

I pulled away from the two remaining Heinkels, then spun round and sprayed them again. The fourth aircraft plummeted down towards the ground, and the last rememaining aircraft turned tail and fled. I certainly showed them where to go!!
Hope to see you soon,
With Love,
Charlie
