COMING SOON: NIXMIX

Postby NicksFXHouse » Fri Oct 14, 2005 6:34 pm

NixMiX is a conglomeration of textures and files from many, many different sources. It will provide a very unique and realistic cloud, sky, horizon and water appearance that will dynamically change as the day and weather progress during a flight.

It will come complete with recommended FS9.cfg file edits and display settings for absolute maximum visual response with the lowest frame rate hit.

(not recommended for low end video cards. must also be Dx9 compliant card)

This mix of files provides the most realistic flight environment I have seen to date. I have tried all the payware water and weather programs and I wish I had never spent the money on clouds that look like drawings and water that never changes to the right look in overcast and other conditions. It will also include a corrected sun flair and a correct horizon corona for high altitude terminator views of the sunrise and sunset...

a few quick snags:

still a work in production but coming soon to a sim site near you

That's one of the greatest ideas I've heard since a long time. This will offer to the novice users (by mean of game tweaking) the easiest and greatest way to change completely their flying environment !!

Just remeber to include in the archive a complete set of comparative screenshots, so that the user can really see the impact of the current package, because my guess is that you (or others) will soon propose alternative packages of the same type with different results ;)

Thumbs up!  8)

...and for you frame rate watchers, check out the counter with the PMDG747 in a thick cloud bank using the mixed texture set

Of course there are still times when the frames are going to choke down no matter what texture is used... such as overcast with thunderstorms for 60 miles

but it does not last long, even when a frame hit pops up there is no studdering and the REALISTIC quality of the clouds IMHO is worth the small hit in frame rates here and there

Looks good! Would it be possible for before and after shots aswell, just to compare?

And could you include a list of files you used for your add-on (in the final release)?

Looks very good so far, but I guess that the ground textures won't be affected.

Real star data?? Thats interesting.  Sometimes I've seen Ursa Major (big dipper) in FS, but I've never been able to locate other constellations :)

There's an addon out there that puts real star data into the skies.

Yes, that add-on (Real Stars) will be included with this package.

As I said, the package is a mix of available files. I do not take any credit for the textures or files. All I am doing is putting them together into one package.

The best ground textures with the least frame hit come from Fscene. The best (standard) landclass and replacement geography comes from FSGenisis. Unfortunately both are payware. Both are used in the images above. I would like to offer the ground textures as well but it would not be right for me to included those textures.

I highly recommend Fscene and FSGenisis because their products, when correctly installed and set up in the fs9.cfg fle, have no effect on frame rates and boost the default environment visual 100%++

When I get close to completion I will be doing install/uninstall tests at which time I can provide comparison images.
