ID3: Pride... part 2

Postby krigl » Mon Oct 03, 2005 2:18 pm

Sitting in the departure lounge, waiting for a beer, I gazed out of the window at the Lisunov Li-2 parked on the apron. My, she was a fine machine! And big too, she towered over the An-2 we'd come in on. To be honest, now the An-2 didn't seem that hot... it had been terribly sluggish...

As we filed into the plane, it clouded over and began to snow. The interior was pretty beat up, metal seats, a carpet (! - on a plane?!) riddled with fag-burns, the upholstery faded and nicotine stained. Still, another air hostess, who served hot tea with rum while we waited... and waited...

An-2 here
Li-2 here. Uses default model, put the panel in a new panel folder in the default DC-3 and add the livereies to the aircraft.cfg. Panel has modified gauges in metric with russian text, and you lose both VOR radios. If you want the alternate FDE, make a separate Li-2 folder which contains the files you downloaded and add the missing stuff from the DC-3. Remeber when using the alternate FDE that you have only 1000 hp for each engine and are a few hundred kilos heavier...

Use babelfish for translation if you can't figure it out

both work for me... just try again, as that site (FSUSSR) is somewhat shakey concerning uptime

:)Thanks a lot krigl :)

About the underpowered Li-2... have you cheked the airplane wheigt and fuel load? Sometimes, for unknown reasons (almost for me), some aircrafts in Fs2004 appears overloaded, when you select them. and, of course are hard to fly. In others cases simply refuses to take off and crash.

Again very thank you I

More coolness... keep 'em coming.

Re: the Li2/DC3: If you're really only seeing 100fpm with the default loading, check your mixture and prop settings. Generally speaking, at normal weight with rpms at 28 and MAP at 52, she'll get up and give you at least 700 fpm with 110 KIAS. Mixture should be full rich.
To climb to cruise alt. or climbing while cruising, rpm 2400/MAP 35 is about right to see 100-125 KIAS with 500-700 fpm. Lean the mixture slightly as you go up.
Trimming for the target airspeeds yields much better climb, I've found, than simply firewalling it and trying to hold the nose high. She'll mush and settle and eventually sink. Sometimes you actually have to lower the nose a hair to get that just-right airspeed for good  climb rate.

(from Werner Schott's checklists and RL checklists from other sources... Just spent over 200 hrs in the FS9 DC3 on my RTW flight, usually overloaded at 33,000 lbs. GTW, and was able to verify those numbers)
