EQDC3: Leg 8, part 2
For a few hours over the vast jungle of the DRC, I'm tossed and battered by turbulence.... not fun.

Things eventually calm down, but now I'm a little nervous about the lack of any safe landing place below. Lots of trees here...

Then the eastern leg of the mighty Congo river scrolls into view... I'm ahead of schedule, so I decide to take a little detour, to see if I can find Stanley Falls, up the river near Stanleyville.

Kind of interesting flying over this city, but no sign of the falls. I decide to go back upriver and resume my course.

A little more agricultural land in this area... lots of settlements near the Congo's many tributaries.

The weather starts to get worse, and now the sun is quite low. I start to get the feeling that I've miscalculated again... desite the two-zone time difference between my departure and destination airports, I'll be arriveing after sunset. Damn. Shouldn't have taken that detour...

There's a big thunderhead... may have to file IFR soon, especially when it gets dark.

Next: Entering Gabon at sunset
