Hail the Victor!

Postby edzmen » Tue Sep 27, 2005 3:32 pm

Im a sucker for a 'good old'  V-Bomber and so couldn't resist downloading Chris Hodgson's Handley Page Victor

B.1A, especially when I heard that It was originally intended as payware!

The external model has to be on of the best yet created for the Victor - In my opinion better than the Ito version.
It seems to handle well enough - its just the lack of a decent panel that lets it down. :(

So far im un-decided about this one - so i thought I'd take a few shots of Freddy Hanley Page's finest in her

element, just to see if she'd win me over !

I think she did!  ;D

Hope you like! ;)

That is one helluva plane, very distinctive, at the same time both hideously ugly and incredibly graceful. Those intakes are incredible, so HUGE. She looks like Dan Dare should be piloting her....

Your shots really do a beautiful job of showing her off, especially the second and the other ones with the water through the clouds have been saved to my hard drive....VERY nice!

Superb shots of a radically designed plane. In a way the "Comet" could be considered the commercial counterpart to this beauty... :)

Wow, thats a brilliant set of shots!

The way the lightness of the cloud and the Victor contrasts with the darkness of the water below is very atmospheric.

Better than some photographs I've seen by HP themselves!  :o

Nice shots, personally I prefer the Vulcan however ;)

Beautiful shots of a nice aircraft. :D

I always liked the Victor & often wondered where the idea came from. It seems so advanced & revolutionary compared with Handley Page's previous military aircraft like the Halifax & Hastings. I discovered the answer when a friend showed me a drawing of a German WWII project. I can't remember the company or the designer now but it was quite obvious that, like many British aircraft of the period, this was the inspiration behind it.

Indeed they are all lovely shots of one of the most beautiful jet bombers ever (Jebos  :P).
I agree with tMark, on the Vulcan, but nevertheless, this is a must download!

It's a strange organic-looking beast,; very interesting. And a pretty successfull design, or am I wrong?
As for its inspiration: Not surprised to hear about a German connection; the Me 163 Komet could be one of this big mama's babies: pointy nose, swept mid-fuselage wing, etc.
No decent panel, eh? Too bad. I often DL stuff like this, then leave it alone because it's no good for anything but screenshots w/o a decent panel.

Thanks for the encouraging comments guys, Im touched... ;)

That's interesting to hear about the design inspiration for the Victor, Hagar. Like you I'd always thought it was quite a radical design departure from the usual craft built by HP, but I didn't know why. I thought perhaps Freddy had been smoking something exotic at the time!
