Nick's Space Shuttle Challenge: Aurora Borealis

I saw someone post that they experienced the "southern lights" during the Antarctic Adventure flight I created for my Space Shuttle Landing Challenge package. I have read in forums the Aurora Borealis will show up in flight simulator but I thought it could be forum rumors too.... until I flew my Antarctic Adventure flight 6-7 times and finally the following showed up:

The atmosphere was pulsating with smoothly transitioning colors. I flew above, below and right through it. It was like flying down to the surface of another planet.

I tried the flight 3 more times but it never reappeared. The only thing I did different with the flight I experienced above was left it paused (the flight starts paused) for about 10 minutes at the beginning of the flight while I made a pot of coffee.

I guess Aurora Borealis really does appear in flight simulator.

Nice Screenshots you got there,

Nemo

p.s Try and reduce the size of some of them Before the Mods/admins see these ,as all of them combined seams to be over 500kb

I actually like the antarctic flight the best for several reasons...

1. It is very dark below 13,000ft and the runway is not lit except for the marker at the beginning. Actually seeing the runway does not happen until the last minute.

2. The temp is cold and the ice factor along with air density makes for a compounded flight dynamics problem

3. The runway is 10,000ft and made of ice, therefore it adds even more fun to the landing. Touchdown must happen within the first 100-600ft or the shuttle will not stop before sliding into the water at the end

4. Since I designed the shuttle in my package to have the ability to water ditch (if landed correctly) with no crash bar, the end of the runway dunk in the drink can actually be fun.

Even being the designer, I only get the shuttle down (perfect on a runway and stopped) about 25% of the time using the NASA specified suspension system.
