Pole to pole! part 4

Day 4

Dawn broke, crisp and cold. Ed and I got up, stamped around a few times to shake the chill out, then started getting ready for the next leg. This would be a good run; to BFU Brooks; the local Bush Flying Unlimited headquarters for their northern operations. After a quick breakfast; we were off.

This would be a real challenge. This time; we could at least be sure some NDB's would be functioning; but since we weren't going into Fairbanks we'd have no VOR assistance.
We'd also be leaving the muskeg for the mountains of northern Alaska - combined with the low visibility; you've got a potential for disaster - one all Northern pilots are acutely familiar with.

During our flight; we were able to locate and use two NDB's. They would prove to be critical; since the third - the Coldwater NDB used by BFU Brooks - turned out to be nonfunctional. So our ultimate target would have to be located visually. We didn't immediately realize that;
