I am using an F16 modified gauge, but it ought to be similar...click on the buttons around the radar gauge, one of them will bring you into a close-in view, something like 1/3 of the original detection area becomes hightlighted for clarity.

Matching speed and altitude isn't as easy as you would think. It usually takes me about an hour to do it and, as you said, you usually just fly right past the target

To get really close you have to turn off collision detection or the sim will detect a collision at about 1000 feet.

After that it's just patience.  Approach the target from behind and close at about 10 knots.

Alex, that pic is WAAAAAAAAAAAAY too big. ;)

After flying the Kingair extensively, I learned very precise throttle control, and I can now match speed relatively quickly-it's all about your feel on the throttle, your experience basically. (altitudes never been a problem, I have a light touch ;D)

Trying to escort stuff is a tad bit hard. You must have something fast and something able enough to catch up with the aircraft. Only jets can put up with this, if you try with a Cessna Skyhawk, it'll be next to impossible...
Cheers,
Ashar :)

Uh, are you using a fighter's airbrakes when closing in?  Makes it much easier...

* The Radar gauge:
This is a completely new radar gauge. It requires Pete Downson's FSUIPC version 2.83 or higher.
It works with the traffic information provided by FSUIPC-----< straight from the read me.

http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/syb.c ... fsuipc.zip

theres the link

just place the ddl file in the correct folder, it should say more in detail in the install or readme.

1: Find a bigger airport (or install PAI if you havent done that already)
2: increase radar to 40NM
Russian planes: IL-76 (all standard length ones),  Tu-154 and Il-62, Tu-134 and [url=http://an24.uw.hu/]An-24RV[/ur

Been there, done that, but thanks anyway :)
I have lots of AI traffic in the air, but none show up on my radar gauge

Yesterday I intercepted a Beechcraft Baron with my F-16!
Wasn't easy but finally I made it and here are the screenshots!
