Bad day in the office!

This wasn't actually planned, it just sort of happened! I had originally planned to fly from Boston (US) to Athens (GR) and make this my first transatlantic voyage!

However, the following happened. Bear in mind that I didn't have my image snapshot thingy ready, so I only managed to make two screens!

Image

Shortly after take-off, I realise that something's wrong - my damn gear is stuck!! :o

What do you do in such a situation ??? I decided to type the ILS information into the autopilot and to return to Logan Intl...

Eventually, my navigation skills (and the autopilot!) brought me back, then the auto took over and guided me in....nice landing actually, but on touch-down, this happened:

The stuck landing gear gave way, and I slid uncontrollably across the runway! I forgot to turn off autopilot too, so this further complicated things! Unfortunately, I continued to slide, straight into an AA 737, holding short (no piccie)  :-X

So, my question is - what could I have done to avert this disaster ???  I think I damaged the gear when on take-off I just about managed to get off the runway, thought I had cleared it but I may have touched grass a bit...but anyway, on realising the gear damage, what else could I have done?

Doesn't Ctrl+G or Shift+G manually pump the gear in if it gets stuck?  Or is that just in CFS.

Whew... good landing.  I dunno, with such a heavy bird, it might be hard to keep the weight off the bad side with the ailerons  :P  I would assume that the AA 737 was on the left side?  Maybe differential brake into the opposite side to balance the drag? I dunno!  :P

Interesting dilemma, well you gave it your best try, maybe they should have big nets at or near the end of the runways at the major airports to try and stop run- away planes? Just a thought  ???  ;D

It does work in all versions of FS, however its better if you have a control on you gampad/joystick to work it as it doesn't require so much effort.

I did see a manual gear feature in the commands screen.

Did you set this failure to happen in the failures section or did it happen on its own?

It happened on its own, I think I screwed up my take-off, I took off from 33L and almost landed in the sea...land slopes down behind the runway, must have damaged it there, as I barely cleared the runway when I started climbing

I see you guys post pics of damage and sparks and all that and I just never see it.

If I turn crashes off my plane become unbreakable and just bounces around if I fly straight into the ground.

If I turn crashes on it game stops the split second I do anything out of the ordinary. If I bump a tree with the wing tip the game says crash and restarts the flight.

I could never drag a plane down the runway with smoke and sparks.....or can I?

Most planes I have downloaded all have damage=1 in the aircraft file so that means its on right?

I'm not sure about FS, but in real live pulling quite some positive g's can sometimes force the gear out ;)

You might want to retract all the wheels and belly-land after dumping fuel. If your gear doesn't move at all, have some FFA guys standing on the tower. Then do a flyby so they can grab on to the wheels and pull them off  ;D
