New find: Maule M-7-260

Postby DJ_Zephyr » Sun Jul 31, 2005 10:00 am

I was browsing the Bush Flying Unlimited website earlier looking for amphibious planes to try out, and found a link to this little gem.  The Maule M-7-260 comes with 3 taildragger variants, a tricycle variant, and my favorite, a floatplane rig!

Here she is, fresh delivery at the BFU North docks:

One of her best features, a darn nice virtual cockpit:

Some nice water effects included with this beauty:

A good in-flight angle:

She's not limited to just the water and the sky, either:

The only major downside was the 60mb download size, but it's worth it, or at least, it was for me.  The site is: http://www.fsnordic.net/.  Go to their file library, click "search" and type in "Maule".  It's the top one that says "Full Package HOT!"  They also have the pack here at Sim-V http://www.simviation.com/fs2004props54.htm!  An enjoyable little bush plane!

Certainly sounds worth picking up! Does it land on the runway too?  ;) Curious to know DJ, do you use any water add-ons? If so which one? Thanks for the heads up on a neat little plane.  :)

Yes, IT can land on the runway, I'm the one who has the trouble getting it there.  I'm terribly shaky with landings!

And ya, that's a water mod, FS9wat: http://www.simviation.com/fs2004scenery4.htm.  Looks spectacular when in the air.  And if you mean the spray effects, those come with the plane.

The base was from the Bush Flying Unlimited website.  It's their main Alaska base, and is quite a nice add-on.  They have a good selection of stuff, too.  http://www.avsim.com/bfu/

It's not exactly "new"...but it is one of the must-haves for freeware planes.

Mikko Maliniemi has been noticed by Dreamfleet and now designs planes for them (including, but not limited to, the Bonanza A36).  There's an effect file you might consider for the Ski version...one that makes white snow dust instead of the standard brown stuff...that can be found at Flightsim.com (can't remember the name off the top of my head...sorry)

I download the Maule a couple of weeks ago and tried it once.  I really liked the engine sound.  I couldn't get the radio stack working properly though; I wonder if anyone else  was having a problem like this.

You have to switch it on...it doesn't turn on with the rest of the Avionics...

Lots of planes are like that...move your mouse around and you'll figure it out!

Yeah, I've already clicked on about every square millimeter of the radio stack on the Maule.  Yeah, it comes on, and I can tune it.  But there's no autopilot as far as I can tell.  Could still be doing something wrong, but I just don't have time to keep on trying, and the documentation doesn't seem to be very good.  Typical sort of situation.  I bought FS Panel Studio so I can just rip out non-functioning items on a lot of the freeware aircraft, and replace them with things that actually work.

The thing is, although the Maule is very nice, its so similar to the C172 that fiddling with it just isn't worth the time if just getting the radio stack to work is such a bother.
