Screenshot Workshop Idea

Thanks all who looked in or participated in the poll. We'll stash this idea away for now, and in the future, who knows what we'll come up with... ;D

N' taking the cirrus clouds off might make it 'cleaner'

......P.S. Being the freeware section, here's a freeware shot to make this post legit... ;) Oh, and what would you do to improve this shot?

Switch the lights back on again...;)...!

.....The idea is to be able to have a place to have your screenshots evaluated and critiqued by your piers....

Hi Clip...
It was all going fine up until this point...

Piers: A bit of woodwork poking out into the sea for tourists to wander along and smell the salty air.

Now "Peers", like me, is more of an adequate description ... ;)...!

LOL...!

Paul....It's raining outside, and I'm in a good mood for laughter... ;D...!

Nice idea clipper. For the shot I would get rid of the clouds and try to find a better moon. I think I once saw an add-on on AvSim. Made the moon a little bigger and brighter.

Crash ;)

Yep, it seems that moon is to tame, or doesn't look real, well maybe some wheather would help. Maybe take the same shot again with some scenery? ;)

Very interesting idea.

So here's some feedback.

1) The clouds are very nice in my opinion as is the moon.

2) The real problem starts from the position that the shot is taken from and the distance from the plane.

ie...... the position of the tail reduces the effect of the clouds and moon and creates a an odd picture where it is hard to tell if the moon is in the foreground or the plane.

3) Since the distance from the plane is long it is impossible to see detail clearly. By angling the shot slightly you could have closed in on the plane a lot more and created more clarity

4) When shooting night shots pay close attention to use light reflections and try to shoot from the lit side so that reflections are more hi-lighted. Use the contrast of light and dark.

5) Try to be more dramatic and get the shot which captures how you felt when you were flying and you saw what you wanted others to see.

I cannot speak for all the judges but as a judge one of the first things I will do is check to see if you have cropped a shot by checking the properties of the shot.

I will never pick cropped shots since there is never a need unless you are editing something out or just don't know how to post. In either case you would have lost my vote

There is of course a great deal more but that's it for now.

Well, you asked for it... ;D
I don't have a problem with cropping, and I would've cropped that closer befor reducing it. That can save a lot of detail. Whenever possible, I'll crop a shot down to the right size (800x600), and converting to JPEG usually puts it within the "weight" limits. I've gotten so that I'll "shoot" with that in mind, planning on cutting away the edges of the screenie. It's not that big a deal when you're starting out at 1024x768.
It's also just a wee bit too dark- not enough contrast. Pretty legible for a night shot, though.

These suggestions on improving the screenshot I posted here are a good example of what to expect when submitting pics in a "screenshot workshop". You could take whatever advice you felt would help you to improve your shot taking. Everyone would be free to give their input. Got an issue with jaggies? Need an exotic location to set up that next shot? What's the best screenshot utility? How do I compress less when saving a shot? These are some of the types of questions  you could expect to have debated and answered in a workshop. So come on everyone..VOTE IN THE POLL!! Let's see your enthusiasm... ;D

Wonderful idea Clip! Maybe people will realise the different tips and use them to make their next shot more interesting. The contests might become harder to judge too.
Cheers,

Oh, and what would you do to improve this shot?
Nothing its great ;D ;D the shot could have been taken from a lower perspective, love the clouds, and love the Screenshot Workshop idea, only prob is that some people may start to criticise rather than to help :P Love the idea   ;) :)
cheers

Clipper, you didn't need two posts.

You start the Poll, then put your post that you have here under the Poll.

There is no need for two separate threads. Kind of confusing reading one and trying to find the other.

Michael LOL, I did not even know you looked in the Freeware forum shots!  ;D

Dave, now that you've split up the poll and the explanation for the poll, don't you think it's become even more confusing? Point being you claim it's confusing reading one and then having to find the other one, then you move the other one from 1 or  2 posts away to another page completely.... ??? The word poll doesn't even appear on the locked topic here. This isn't helping the ideas momentum... Is there any way to integrate the two posts now without re-setting the poll results?
