Project: StarTrek Runabout Danube Class

Postby OriK » Thu May 06, 2004 5:34 am

Hello,
This air(space)craft is my newest (first :) ) creation for the flight simulator. I'm a trekkie but I couldn't find any StarTrek ships for this sim. So I started to create my own one. My favorite shuttle is the runabout which you can find in DS9. The "real" ship is flying with warpspeed ( to fast to see details of the world ;) ). I've set the max speedlimit to 1000 kts. There will be an invisible landing gear because the shuttle is hovering over the ground. The final exteriormodel has 9444 Faces, the virtual cockpit 11688 Faces.

These are pics with uncompleted LCARS and untextured interior. I just want to show the bridge.

This is the final LCARS right to the pilot.

These are simple render pics.

Here you can see an older version of my runabout with less details ingame.

And last but not least a small video of this model to get first 3d impressions. [url=http://www.orik.de/danube/danube_2.avi]download video

The textures are coming soon.

coming from one of the biggest star trek fans to never wear a pair of vulcan ears or eat a bowl of fresh G'agh. I must say absolutly stunning work there ;D
Personally i think all computers should run the LCARS system its amazingly simple and makes computer work so much easier.
cant wait for the final release.

Excellent work Orik. Have you concidered designing spacecraft for Orbiter?

Oh, thanks for all the positive feedback.

@omag
Don't worry about the FPS. I can fly it with constant 30 Frames. I set all terrain and aircraftsettings to maximum. 6xFSAA and 16xAF. Some of the MSaircrafts have around 15000 Faces (exterior) (ok, I use a 9800Pro, 1GB RAM and 2.7GHz)
I'm amazed that you can use the flightsimulator with a P4 2,4 MHz. Quite slow I think ;D .

Have you concidered designing spacecraft for Orbiter?

I think I don't have enough time to build yet another aircraft because I'm already working on a FarCryModification and further flightsimmodels. E.g. this will be my next project.

I cannot tell you a releasedate because I make it all by myself. This can take a while. But you see, the models are final and the textures are coming soon.

One problem are the gauges. I have no Idea how to
make custom gauges. For this aircraft I can't take an analog altimeter ;) . But I'll find a way.

And I will light up the blue stripes ;) .

Edit:
I almost forgot a screenshot where you can see the extraordinary appearance compared to a standard plane. I still have to reduce the reflection of the bussard collectors.
