Strange Tomcat feeling

I picked up the Top Gun soundtrack and threw it in the CD player. Then I took the Tomcat and flew a pattern, making about the most beautiful arrest I have ever made. I dont know whether this is because its 00:37 here but it felt so right. I sat looking at the Tomcat for the past five minutes, thinking about its retirement soon, Top Gun and the moments when I flew her (in the sim, of course!). Then I decided I should share the moment. Put on Through the fire from the soundtrack and you'll understand what I am saying. Or maybe I am just tired.  ;D Enjoy!

The best looking fighter in service today!! Thought about it a bit. Is going to be strange that in ten years or maybe even five years, when an FS model for the Tomcat comes out with the description that it used to be a part of the Navy's in Iran and the US.........

There's talk of the navy converting them to EF-14's. Don't know why since we have the EF-18, the EF-111 and so on.. ::)

When the F-14 was designed, the requirement was to have an aircraft which could carry 6 AIM-54 Phoenix missiles, along with long range and mach 2 or so speed.  It was the big required payload that drove the F-14 size.  The F-14 was the only plane to ever carry the Phoenix missile; the AMRAAM is the modern, smaller missile with equivalent performance.
