No, this isn't a post of a bunch of planes.  I wouldn't do that because it would start a lot of arguing.

Anyway,  while making my Around Earth post, I came across this airport.  When I say the name in FS9, I thought it would be some tiny grass strip in the middle of nowhere that had a weird name.

Boy I was wrong.

I wasn't that wrong.  It was a grass strip AND it was sort of in the middle of knowhere.(It's in Florida)

If anyone knows about this airport, do tell.

FA08 - Worlds Greatest Aircraft Collection
Polk City, FL

A 1551 m/5090 ft grass runway! :o
One end of 4/22 sits rather close to Interstate 4.

It is the home of Kermit Weeks' "Fantasy of Flight" Collection...

Debatable title though - one of the world's greatest, but not the greatest, for that lies in a little corner of Bedfordshire...

Yea, I wouldn't ever label something the worlds greatest.  Maybe it is just a self-centered american way of saying it, since it may be the best collection in america.

It is the Fairchild C-82.  An AMAZING plane by Daisuke Yamamoto.  It is on the major sites, and It is the plane from the original flight of the phoenix, and it comes with a phoenix.

It needs to be - Kermit Weeks owns a B-24 and a B-17 which reside there.

Does anyone else have a AI DC3 crashed/tipped on its nose at the end of the runway opposite to the hangars, about 100m to the right of the threshold in FS2004?

Haha... yeah.

EDIT: Here's a protest about the real 'crashed' DC-3 at that airport, complete with pictures: Linky

I might add that I found a building macro nearby that I'd never seen before - a decrepit old shack with a corrugated metal roof.
