Nice change of pace...

I was intrigued by the "Flight of the Vin Fiz" flight in FS9, until I found out they expect you to recreate Cal Rodgers' amazing coast-to-coast flight in a J-3...
Found this nice model of a 1911 Wright EX  by Paul Beardsley, and decided to recreate the epic 49-day 1911 flight, a little at a time, with that.  It's slow, and a little tricky to trim for level flight (not even sure if the original had trim), but it looks and sounds great, and I'm enjoying using it to have a good look at my SRTM mesh as I install it.

Here's Cal crossing NY Harbor, just after takeoff from Sheepshead Bay, NY. ... Sept. 1911.

Very interesting adventure. Will you simulate all the crashes?
Where did you get the plane by the way?

Don't think I'll simulate the crashes (or the time the engine blew up, driving shrapnel into his arm!!:D), although I'm thinking of trying to dig up a more complete list of where he stopped on the way (plan for now is to follow his course and just find an airport when fuel gets low or darkness falls). Not entirely sure why he went to Sacramento by way of Chicago and then San Antonio, but that's the route I'm taking. Just crossed the Delaware last night, after about an hour of sim-time.
Sorry, but I can't recall where I found this one. Maybe AvSim? Try searching under "Vin Fiz" and "Beardsley", maybe.

MS cut stupid corners.
Do they think we'll belive that most of the worlds airports are just a runway and no buildings or taxiways...

Can't be too hard on them,; I think I got my money's worth with FS9. The airports (just about every damn one in the world, BTW) don't bother me much- before I start griping about it I guess I should learn to create this stuff myself and show 'em what it should really look like (got some ideas about some airports I know well).
But  flying this trip in a Cub would just not be the same- they'd have been better leaving it out.
Good thing there's free add-ons... ;D
