Fly for a Song?

I just thought of something that may be a lot of fun. Tell me if you guys would be interested in trying this: Someone picks a song title, eg "Early Morning Rain" by Gordon Lightfoot, or perhaps "Tequila Sunrise" by the Eagles. Then everyone has to come up with 1 or 2 screenshots they feel best visualizes or represents that song title. We could, if everyone prefers, turn it into an informal contest, or just post our comments about the relevance and/or quality

Meeeeehh ???
Bearing in mind all the recent problems we've had, I'm not so keen. Depends how many folks want it, but seems to me up to now it's only been a few when it's been done before. But you can see today a crappy old thread has come back onto page 1 from page 2 and probably knocked a perfectly good real screenie posting off.
Surely something like this is much better in the Cafe not here. Personally I'm sick of having to wade through irrelevant dross in this section just to try and find the real, good quality screenies that seem to be becoming fewer and further between. Either a screenie is a proper sceenie and it's worth posting or it's not and posting something because it's someone's personal idea of a bloody song title doesn't seem to me to be what this area of the forum is all about. It's a gallery for goodness sake.
You asked the question....

So Rollerball, I guess you're not particulary interested?
Understood. I do agree with you the timing is not the greatest. I think though, this forum is for creative expression. Just because screens are relevant to a song doesn't automatically render them inferior, low quality, or less artistic than an unrelated screenie. There's been a solid response to music related ideas here, I thought this topic may be a way to actually stimulate creativity, not an excuse to mass produce repetitive drelve. It also brings out a little competitiveness, which I'm sure just about everyone enjoys. Of course, I'll go with public opinion, and keep in mind I suggested this to potentially enhance, not diminish this forum.

Right now I'd prefer being hit by a truck - and I bet there's one or two round here who'd like to be driving it as well.....

You know what? This music idea is not worth initiating hostilities. Let's drop the whole thing.....

Too bad, it could've been a lot of fun.

hmm, dosnt sound too healthy in these parts,
To Clipper:
The idea on its own was good, I once made screen shots to fit the poem Tiger Tiger... etc and it went down well, so I think you shoud give it a go as an individual, and if others choose to follow suit, then thats up to them. Make the screenshots first class tho!

I like the idea a lot. Because it shows how different people react on something it shows different viewpoints. However I do agree with Rollerball for a change in that it might clog up the first page. I also think however that the shots will be of no less quality than normal. Once again I do like the idea.

Maybe it could be a idea for the next screenshot competition as a trial.

Its natural for some to disagree with the idea, cant please all the people all the time.. though I will tryand remember the idea of a music related topic for our next edited screenshot competition.

Not that I dislike you it's just but your complaints are ill-founded seeing that you have not contributed to this screenshot forum for nearly a month. .
Pete, you are entitled to your opinion as I am but please don't talk out of your backside. Since when has 19th March - 26th March been nearly a month. In the school that I went to it's a week. For your information as for some reason you seem to have made it some sort of qualification before you can voice an opinion round here (which incidenatally I don't) here's a list of my last few postings.
http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/yabb/ ... 1109342184http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/yabb/ ... 1109463516http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/yabb/ ... 1109465819http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/yabb/ ... 1109640189http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/yabb/ ... 1109870965http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/yabb/ ... 1110588277http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/yabb/ ... 1111004732http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/yabb/ ... 1111004725http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/yabb/ ... 1111105001http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/yabb/ ... 1111243427Have YOU done that many? I won't expect any kind of apology that's for sure.
As it happens apart from the fact that I've been working on fs stuff to upload, the main reason I haven't done any more in the last week is precisely because of the reason I've said. You probably couldn't be bothered to notice but in the last few weeks (which incidentally coincides with these 'new' posters finding their feet) I've noticed more and more that quality work from experienced screenie posters is disappearing off the front page with so few views and replies in such a short time that the good quality people seem to be stopping bothering. Why spend hours setting up and taking good shots if it's knocked off the front page by a small minority of people who are not interested in this area as a screen shot gallery but instead want to play games like 'guess what plane I'm hiding behind the bush part 1, 2, 3, 4, etc etc . And that is exactly what happened and sorry that is not on IMO.
If you want to do that, ask Pete to set you up an area especially for it. Either he will or he won't but don't try to take over one that already exists that is there for a completely different purpose.

Guys, do me a fovour, don't bicker on my post. If you want to have it out, pm each other. To those more even tempered on the subject, thank you for your input. It wasn't meant to be...I can live with that. Now everyone please lighten up and appreciate what an incredible site we have here. There's enough anxiety in the real world, let's leave it out there.!!!

Clip, this is my last word on this subject. The reason that people like you say 'what a fantastic site this is' is partly because those of us who have been around a lot longer have fought to keep it that way. It hasn't been easy, it has come under attack from all sorts of directions as the other old-hands will know and as you can see you have to be pretty thick skinned sometimes to defend it.
This site is changing and will continue to do so over time and there's nothing wrong with that. But once something good has been lost my experience of many years has shown that you can never get it back in the way that it was.
It's precisely because this is a good, open gallery where anyone can come and post that so many people like it. But it doesn't mean that it should be allowed for its character to be changed so much by the very people who like it and want to use it that what was there is lost. That's self-defeating and surely anyone can see that. I for one will keep trying to stop change for change's sake and I don't mind saying that openly. Change is only worth it if you want to put something better in place and I can't see that right now. Just a few days ago we had 'Name This Bloody Song 1, 2 and 3' all on page 1 and I can just see where your I-know-it-was-well-intentioned suggestion would take this forum.
