Visiting an Old Friend

My decision to go to Jacksonville was not coincidence.  That was where my friend took the plane I flew cross-country last summer...

He was interested in my Turbo Renegade,  we talked, went out for drinks and caught up on old times.  Yesterday afternoon, he allowed me to take his Lancair up for old times sake.

Man...this view takes me back (I'd forgotten how much I missed that plane...)

Doing a touch-and-go...

I did three or four touch-an- gos...it was beginning to get dark, so I radioed in for a full-stop landing...

Image

Naturally the ATC cleared me to land, then cleared a Cessna to land following me in.

The problem is that the Lancair Legacy is a very slippery plane.  It likes to go fast and does not like to slow down.  I deployed the spoilers, but I was too close.  There was no way I was going to make it down to 110 KTS (let alone slow enough to deploy the gear).  So I announced a go-around and let the Cessna land first.

The wind had changed direction, so I had a bit of a crosswind on landing, but I made it down all the same.

Look at the lines on this plane...truly a work of art!

Well, I'll probably stay one more day, then I'm off to my next stop!

Good shots, I just closed the Sim after flying up through Interlaken, Switzerland, in that Lancair Legacy, very fun little plane, and I second that motion that the plane does not like to slow down, I was landing at a pretty normal runway and ended up stopping 2/3 down, which is darn far for a little plane.  Good shots again!

LOVE the flight guide and the fuel drainer in the 3rd shot! Any pilot would recognize that little black book anywhere
