ahem....

The second jetplane was the Heinkel He 178 (Germany), piloted by Erich Warsitz in 1939.

The first jet fighter was the Messerschmitt Me 262, piloted by Fritz Wendel.

Detailed development on the 262 didn't start til '39... :)

According to the Encyclopedia Britannica the first jet aircraft flight was the He178, but on the 27th August 1939 ;)

Interesting bird you got there!

...In short, don't trust Wikipedia!

Wiki means 'changable' (or the equivalent) in I think Hawaiian.  Wikipedia's entries can be edited for contet by anyone with the ability to visit the site.  This provides for fast updating with new info and also a diverse source of info.  Each edit is logged, but still- anyone can change it.  That's why you always get at least 1 other source....

I'm afraid to say that the He178 would never have been able to get to the altitude it's at in the last shot. You only had 8 minutes before the fanblades melted. ;D

Sound of anoraks being unzipped all over the western world  :D

BTW Pete - my little comment was only supposed to goad you a little bit as you'd produced such a good set of pics again - didn't think it would spark a whole debate right down in this far flung corner of the forum. Guess I'll never learn eh  :)
