A steeep take-off!

Ok, having just barely managed to land a B737-500 at Paro, Bhutan (without ATC clearing me either ...), it's now time to leave this hole in the ground.  Took some wrangling, but they figured it's best to have me fly the thing back, than just hitchhike back to civilization. :)

It's going to take a steep climb to clear terrain here!

Phew, made it over the top of the "hole."

Yes folks, we're not too far above stall speed.

But it sure is a beautiful part of the world!

Y'all enjoy!

Nah -- the clean-up crew would complain too much.  However, drinks? Yah!  I think they'd need one! :)

is that a real airport or one of FS's 'Holes'?

Good flying by the way.. now try that in a 747!

Is there a provision for short field take-offs with the 737? You know, like 15 percent flaps or something?

Correct, Skligmund, flaps 15 are used on short runway takeoffs with the 737... in the case above, I'd also shut off the air conditioning  8)

Thanks igorski.  A 747? [gulp]!

Actually, while the take-off was hand-flown (yep, with flaps at 15; I used up every bit of the runway before rotating), the landing (another thread I posted, "A 737 isn't meant to land here!"), had a lot of help from the auto-pilot.   :-[  My hand isn't very good with maintaining pitch and vertical speeds with the jets, so I rely on the autopilot a lot.  One of these days, I'll go back and take fs9's airline pilot tutorial.

It is, also, a real airport.  (Screenie coming in a second ...).  Paro is the largest city in Bhutan, I think (the other city being Thimpu, the capital, a bit more remote!). According to fs, the runway length is 6522ft.  Enough for a 737, I'd think.

And according to this link I found on Google, the only airline that flies in there is Bhutan's Druk Air, using BAe 146's.  There's plans to get A319's this year, apparently.   And what the author there describes about landing there squares pretty much with what I experienced!

Here's a screenshot of a Cessna waiting for take-off at rwy 33 at Paro.  Notice the steep cliff at the end.  I have a feeling that may be part of the real scenery, and not just an fs9 "hole."  Of course, not sure at all what it looks like in reality (haven't ever been to Bhutan, nor do I plan to anytime soon!).   There must be some more maneuvering room if they're planning on using A319s!

(Sorry for the small size.  Trying to keep the thread below the 500k limit.)

hmm on-runway parking  :o i'd better let you off the 747, if you got it down there no taxiway to turn it round on! Though I reckon a lightly loaded jumbo Could make it in or out ;)

The thing I find is it is easy to take off from that location  ;D

But landing is entirely a whole different task  :-/! Seems that there is an invisible runway or landscape right above the airport as you make you landing descend. :-X!

Fun to fly out from, but a real pain to return to!
