'Lo all! A while back; I posted a challenge: a race in the lovely DeHavilland Comet from London-Cairo. This is my account of my journey thus far:

London Heathrow; 06:50

Well; it doesn't look too good a day to go flying; much less racing. Low clouds with intermittent rain and gusting winds - definitely not weather for breaking speed records in.
Well; too bad so sad - the plane is ready; my support crew is ready; I'm ready - let's go anyway!

Takeoff time is to be at 07:00 sharp; so after running the engines for a bit and getting clearance from the tower; I taxiied her out onto Rwy 27R for takeoff.

Image Ready for Takeoff!

The takeoff was...interesting.

Conditions over southern England were - in a word - miserable.

It's England,whaddaya expect? ;) ;D

I lost quite a bit of time in the mountains; in an effort to make it up - and have a lot of fun in the process - once the rocks were behind me I turned altitude into airspeed and surfed down the foothills towards Italy.

Sa-weet!  8)
