A prequel, if you will...

Before I went to pick up my Lake Renegade, I was asked to take a group of tourists on a tour of this area...

I started with the Soo Locks, which serve as the link between Lake Huron and Lake Superior.  The locks raise and lower the boats between the 2 lakes with the simple act of opening a door...no pumps are involved!

Image

I then turned West, then North along Whitefish Bay to pick up the Tahquamenon River....

Image

And here are the lower falls of Tahquamenon Falls...

Image

And the upper falls.  The falls are known for the foam they produce and on the ground, a brownish tint can be seen.  This is from the tannin leached from the Cedar, Spruce and Hemlock in the swamps drained by the river rather than by rust or mud (the water is extremely soft).

Image

And now, back over the bay and North of our next destination, Whitefish Point!  The light only clicked off one night...on which occured a most famous shipwreck about 25km North of here.  Hint: A song about it is frequently played on oldies radio stations.

Image

A shot from a boat tour (I went with them).

Image

And a shot showing the impending Autumn (and cold weather...)

Image

And now we prepare to return to Sault St. Marie...

Image

A couple shots from a coastie...

On my way back to CYAM, I decided to show them the Locks at night as well.

This tour made for an interesting day while I was waiting for my Lake to arrive! ;)

And by the way, one of the passengers learned the answer to my shipwreck trivia question!  Anyone here know the answer. (I will give more hints as posts go on if needed).  Now back to my story (currently headed for Lake Placid)...8)

Nice photos Jordan. Really like the one with the plane on the ground next to the light house.

Nice, very nice jordonj :)

What a Great aircraft as well, I tend to lean more towards the old DHC-3 radial engined Otter as there is no better aircraft built that can do what it can.  (OK...maybe the Turbo Otter but you didn't hear that from me) :) :) :)

Cheers...Happy Landings....Doug
