Suddenly there was a scream from a young woman coming from behind the fire trucks where the ambulance was
. Then two men approached us and asked if anybody was a doctor, Sandy was a waitress, Davy a wood worker and Andres was a software developer. the only one left was me, and i used to be a paramedic when i still lived in Belgium
. The woman pleaded to me that i was the only hope she had on saving her son who was missing off the El Toro coast just a couple of kilometers from here
. I decided to help this lady in need, those two men drove me to a nearby chopper on floats, it was a Huey Bell 205A-1 ( nice chopper if i may say). I quickly jumped in and started the engine and embark on what could be a dangerous endeavour
.

Once in the air i neededto climb over the rugged mountains between the airport and El Toro, beautiful scenery and what a climb
.

Finally made it over the highest mountains here on the Canary Islands, below you can see the village the boy is from it's called Candidad.

Flying over El Toro's tourist area where the boy went missing about 30 minutes ago, his mother told me that he was wearing a yellow lifejacket.

I spotted the boy in the water.........he seems unconcious.................he's not movig at all, i need to get down there A.S.A.P. I hope i'm not to late, poor kid
.

We pulled him into the chopper and checked his condition, he's not breathing and doesn't have a pulse, Davy and i start CPR immediately to save this strange looking boys life
. After performing CPR for 20 minutes we finally felt a pulse. Now we needed to get back to the emergency vehicles at the airport that are awaiting our return with the boy.

On our way, full speed ahead
.

I never lande a chopper that fast before (must have been the adrenaline pumping). We transfered the boy quickly to the ambulance where the paramedics could give the boy some much needed oxygen. Then the ambulance left, i just hope we did enough to help. The guy that normally flies the chopper was found drunk in the airports cantina completely wasted. I still very happy that i was able to help, it was some time ago that i flew a chopper, but i think i did okay.

After an hour or so the mayor of the Canary Islands came over and thanked us for our help and courage in saving the little boy
. Out of gratitude he prsented us with a smashing picture of the boy we saved after being in the hospital for 30 minutes (didn't i tell you he looked kinda strange), he looks very happy and content don't you think
. And we also received a medal for the courage we all showed (here's a piture of it
.

After this wild adventure i think we deserve a nice cold brewsky and some freshly cut watermelons (no not those melons guys). more to come . Happy flying.
