The thing held the altitude and speed records for decades. As far as I know, only spacecraft can fly higher and the scramjet powered X-43 finaly broke its speed record last month

Oh, they exist all right, I have seen these flying around Arizona when I went there to visit some friends.  The're basically rockets with wings.

you can find some stuff about this plane in the specific aircraft forum...i once started a thread there about this aicraft because i was fascinated about it. to keep things straight, it will be better -i think-  to continue this discussion over there...  ;)
