New lens flare

Postby ozzy72 » Sun Jun 27, 2004 5:17 pm

I love this new lens flare effect by Eitan Daniel. So some tests in my MkVIII (admitedly only two shots show the effect, the other two I just liked) 8)

Yes, they are a bit more realistic than the default.

However I have a problem with any lens flare in any "game".

Lens flare is cause by the relection off the lens and the lens aperture(s). Quality camera and lens makers go to great lengths to eliminate this or, at least, to minimise it as much as possible.

So, why are we trying  to reproduce it?
I suppose it wiil add a touch of reailsm if you are attempting to reproduce a bad photgraph but, why should you have lens flare in a view that is suppost to reprsent a view from the naked eye?
I can honestly attest to the fact that my eyeballs do not generate "lens flare".  :)

Since I have been a photographer for some years (before I turned to Computer Tech support/Gaming and Substitute Teaching), lens flare has always annoyed me (especially with regards to screenshots).  Personally, I turn it off (of course, that's not to say that these are bad shots for it).

Sorry Mark, but I have to concur with my distinguished Photographer Colleagues..........lens flare is a very unwanted occurance to any good quality image  :'(
.....I think I have even made my thoughts public on this in the past, probably back as far as the first screenshots to be posted from FS2004 as soon as it was released.

You do however have nice quality shots showing good content, although its not your fault you have to shoot through "cheap" lenses......... ;)   ;D

In real photography I try to avoid lens flare at all costs, but in FS I just like it :)

Hi
I Like,any idea of the file name?
also if you open the suneffect.cfg in the main fs9 folder look for this section

[LensFlare]
CockPit="0"
VirtualCockpit="0"
TowerView="0"
TrackView="1"
SpotView="1"

Ive changed mine to
[LensFlare]
CockPit="1"
VirtualCockpit="1"
TowerView="0"
TrackView="0"
SpotView="0"

that way I only get lens flare when im looking through the glass of a canopy:)
