For Ozzy (seafire)

These are a couple of my usual low quality screenshots of a Seafire that I found on another site (Sim Outhouse).

It flies like a dream but I think that the airfile may be slightly inaccurate as I landed on the aircraft carrier, missed all of the arrestor wires and still managed to stop in time!

The second two are some test shots of a Fleet Air Arm (Seafire and Swordfish) campaign that I am writing based loosely on the excellent novel "Winged Escort" by Douglas Reeman.

I have added the complete listing of all Cunard ships to my callsigns.dat file and it looks pretty impressive from 3000 feet.

Yup I've got that one Will, she is great. Handles like a dream. I think I found her over at no-nodes...

The airfile is definately out though.  On max realism she lifts off at about 70kts IAS and stops on a tuppence.

I need to find one that will allow Textures to be altered (This one denies permission in the readme) and then someone needs to get the airfile spot on  :-*.

The campaign that I am putting together should be quite good if I can get the play balance right in the mission.  It is easy to make it impossible or a cake walk but very hard to strike the right balance.

Play/beta testers will be needed.

It would be too, I haven't worked out how to get a decent Zig-Zag course laid in.  They do seem to be going at 29 Knots though, which may cause a few problems until the Wolfpack gets in front :)

The convoys were for Merchant vessels with a max speed of between 9 and 19 knots. :P At 29 knots not even the escort would keep up.

Very interesting Will. If you need help with the campaign don't be afraid to ask. I'm sure my Fox Four colleagues would be pleaed to give advice. Tom is  a wizard with the MB. With a little arm-twisting Collin might even come up with some proper Cunard ships for your convoy. I don't think he would need a lot of persuading. ;)

That would be lovely.  I only named them after Cunard ships as that was the easiest text file conversion.  I could have spent hours and hours.  The difficulty was finding the names of the destroyers, I found the Tribal class with little difficulty and then found the complete set of the Flower class.  Cruisers took a little hunting down.  I still need to find the Hunt class as these provided the back bone of the Atlantic escort with their Corvette colleagues.

If anyone wants the list I will happily post it in the CFS forum to be copied and pasted in.

I don't know much about matters nautical myself. Collin is our naval adviser. Not much he doesn't know on the subject. Check out the quality of his work here. http://www.simviation.com/lair/cfs2shipyard.htm
I'm not the only one to think it's exceptional. He's now working on a hospital ship among others.

That would be useful.  Is there any way of increasing the smoke output of ships?  Pictures that I've seen of convoys in the '40's had plenty but in CFS2 they are using smoke free oil.

Tom & Collin are the men to ask about effects. You could drop them a line or I can do it if you prefer. Tell them I sent you. There's really no need for me to get involved.

Collin had to reformat his HD recently. He might not be up & running 100% yet.

Here's HMS Ocean. Is that enough smoke?
