Need help on carrier landings!

Postby Mr. Bones » Fri Apr 09, 2004 11:18 am

Hello,

like lots of you i installed the new Superhornet and the carrier pack from avsim which includes two carriers around Thailand.

in the shots bellow i try to land on the carrier USS Abraham Lincoln close to Phuket. for some reason, my landing gear always sinks into the deck. now i wonder what can be the reason...you all know i'm a really good pilot  ::) so it could be a scenery problem. it's also possible that my approach parameters aren't correct.

here's my approach...which looks quite normal to me:

i did several attempts, one with 137kts and one with 152kts...fuel tanks around 40% and full flaps. perhaps i descend too fast? (watch the vertical speed indicator on the right hand side of the shots)

the result is this, no matter at what speed i come in:

landing this plane on normal runways is no problem for me...it's just this carrier. maybe i level off too late on the carrier, i don't know...

do you have any suggestions for me? they are all welcome! please help me because i'm about to jump into the ocean  :(

I'm not a scenery expert, but I think that in order to create a carrier, you need to make a landable surface.
In this case, I think that surface is right below the visible flight deck :P...

it can't be your fault ;)

hope this helps-

if i start a flight on this carrier, i can taxi on the deck so i'm not sure if your solution is the right one.  ;)

Sometimes the gear on the plane can be very weak...I once hand flew an ILS approach into Chicago-Midway. Stayed 2 red and 2 white the entire way down. Landed at 140kts. Still got sparks and a beautiful view on the night sky in the cockpit view when I came to a stop...
