Approach to Kai Tak....747 Style!

Postby Fly2e » Sat Mar 06, 2004 1:45 pm

Gripping the controls tightly and pulling back on the stick, the ground below gets closer and closer!
Image

A view from the ground as I try to line up with the runway!!

Trying not to overcompensate, the cross wind is pushing me sideways!
Image

I hit the ground with a huge thud as my left outer wheel blows out! The passengers are screaming in the cabin!

Amazing!!!!

Now just one question.... are you a REAL pilot by any chance  ???  ???

The reason of the question is that I think that only someone with real piloting experience can pull out a landing like that!

Kudos from a newbe

Ahhh, the contrast.

Pax that have never flown into Kai Tak are screaming they "Don't want to die"...pax that have been here before are relaxed and saying "Smooth Landing!". :)

Great shots of a challenging approach.

Amazing! I love that second shot.

Looks like a hell of a job to land a huge jet safely overthere. Hope it wasn't as hard in real life!

I should have had more faith - we all knew you'd make it.

It'd be hard enough to stuff the plane in there without taking screen shots from different points of view at the same time or is there a trick I don't know about ?

I think it was harder!! You didn't get any second chances at Kai Tak!  :o

Thanks again to all who responded! If you want to see a real landing at Kia Tak. Click here. Landings like this were pretty common!!  :o

:o

Wow, looks impossible from the way it starts off.

Obviously part of the reason they actually closed it down, but was it really worth landing in such a dangerous place in the first place? ???

i've always wondered, why not just approach from the other end of the runway...   ???
